Inspired by Rilke’s poetic wisdom, this issue has grown slowly – like roots threading deeper into soil, ideas shaped across distance. It gathers voices, visions and practices that ask what it means to stay grounded amidst a world in chaos, and how we might cultivate resilience not as a hardened shell, but as a tender and ongoing relationship with each other, with the Earth and the future we long for.

The Lissome No. 5 includes an exclusive interview with cover star Lily Cole.

In her editor’s letter, our founder and editor-in-chief, Dörte de Jesus, shares:

“In a world filled with overwhelm, perhaps the most transformative act we can undertake right now is to foster a hopeful alternative – a guiding light to orient us – while cultivating a practice of resilience that anchors us along the way – to become stewards of personal and planetary wellbeing.”

Across 144 pages of intimate interviews, critical essays and luminous photography, Rise Up Rooted, Like Trees moves through themes of embodied knowledge, regenerative craft, ecological attunement and radical imagination. From the power of myth as an anchor and guide in times of upheaval to storytelling as a practice of community care, from tactile rituals of making to frameworks and tools for inner and outer alignment, this issue is both a love letter and a blueprint – for living otherwise.

A Mindful Evolution in Design

Readers of previous editions will notice a subtle change in the format and feel of our new magazine. With these changes, we hope to honour both aesthetic sensibility and environmental integrity.

By slightly reducing the format, we’re now able to use the printing sheets more efficiently, fitting in more double pages per sheet and significantly reducing paper waste. We’ve also selected new high-volume papers that retain the same luxurious, tactile quality you know and love, while being lighter in weight. This change helps us reduce shipping emissions and costs.

What remains unchanged is our close collaboration with Druckhaus Sportflieger, our trusted Berlin-based print partner since day one, and our commitment to using sustainably sourced papers. Our new paper stocks – Munken Print White by Arctic Paper and Holmen TRND – are both certified and chosen for their environmental credentials.

Working on this edition has been a grounding process for our team. We’ve spent the past year in deep conversation with contributors around the world, weaving together narratives that stretch across disciplines but converge in spirit. Holding these stories has reminded us that beauty is not decorative, but vital; that to slow down is not to escape, but to deepen. After all, community is one of the fiercest forms of resilience we have.

We’re proud of what we’ve created. And we’re so grateful for the support of our readers, whose belief in this work sustains it.
